This assignment is ideal for Spanish I or II learners. Students explore the meanings behind coats of arms, then create their own personal shield which they describe to peers in Spanish. An excellent review/cultural activity which incorporates colors, characteristics, animals, symbols, and SER usage. Students present their projects while classmates listen in target language to track details. This lesson could be easily adapted for other foreign languages. Worksheets are primarily in Spanish, additional differentiated scaffolded plans and extra links for enrichment are included.

This quiz works best for a level III or higher class where students have already been working with subjunctive verbs for awhile. I use it as my second quiz after students have completed my homework practice packet. Quiz is 50 pts, takes one class to complete and is graduated in task level. 1) identification of expressions that take either Subj or Indicative tenses. 2) Practice sentences to complete in Subj, Ind or Infinitive 3) an essay prompt on a student familiar topic for them to answer creatively using subj and indicative tenses, work bank of starter expressions included for them.

No matter how much practice students get with question words, they always feel sticky at the beginning of the year. The powerpoint contains 56 practice sentences for students to select the correct interrogative. You can use it with whiteboards, or as a warm up, or load it into a clicker lesson if you have them. The "preview file" is a word doc on question words that can be assigned following the powerpoint, and practices similar questions. This lesson works best after students have already been introduced to interrogatives and has a few days to practice. answer key for worksheet is included.

This film is set at the turn of the century in the hills of Provence outside of Marseilles and is based on a true story of the childhood of a French film director. In French, with subtitles available in either English or French, its not rated and it totally suitable for French students in either middle or high school. There is a sequel to this film, My Mother's Castle, if you students enjoy this one. Movie guide contains 36 questions chronologically ordered to accompany the film which is 2 hrs. in length. Questions are provided in both French and English.

This fun reading activity is designed for level II of higher Spanish students who have already seen comparisons and stem changing verbs. Students read through two columns of choices and mark their preferences on a cute diagram to determine if they are more "left brain" or "right brain". Good activity for a sub plan, or as a reading practice. Afterwards students can compare their drawings with friends or you can divide up the class to see who is more left or right.

Sweet 15 explores two culturally relevant themes, the significance of the Quinceañera and the issue of granting amnesty to illegal aliens in the U.S. While the film is a little dated, the issues explored remain very relevant today and evoke some good in class discussion about becoming a citizen, illegal workers and the coming of age ritual of the quinceañera. Movie guide includes optional websites and questions for "presearch", 25 chronological movie questions and follow up questions for discussion. Best suited for first year Spanish students.

Make learning numbers fun. Students circle the numbers as you read them in the target language. Each row gets a little faster with row 5 being the "speed row". Reward perfect papers with candy/points, then play another round. This grid can be used for any foreign language or basic ESL activity.

This is just a file of large words that you can cut apart and have your students put up around the school. Its fun and "gets the word out" to the other students and the administration that you are making people aware of school vocabulary in Spanish. Kids love to put them up. I do this activity every year and its amazing how long the words actually stay up. Education by osmosis. Enjoy!
